Hi I stumbled in to this distro yesterday and feelt i just need to try it,Im new to Linux Since Januari this year and so far i tried about 15 different distros i got 2 nvme disks and got Cachyos on the other and i must say i realy do like Soplos Linux it works great so far the only thing which i haven't seen before is that when i logg in to Soplos i need to logg in as root for my vpn to start,why is that it has never happend on any Distro i tried before,but other than that i do like this Distro very much.

Regarding the VPN issue, that's not expected behavior — normal users shouldn't need root to start a VPN connection on Soplos.

Could you tell us which VPN client/software you're using?

• NetworkManager with a VPN plugin (openvpn/wireguard/openconnect)
• A standalone client (e.g. openvpn or wg-quick via CLI)
• A commercial app (ProtonVPN, Mullvad, NordVPN, etc.)

That'll help us pinpoint whether it's a permissions/polkit issue or something specific to that client's setup.

I use Proton vpn gui client. and now after an system update i once again hade to use my root password for rebooting and apply the update now im on cachyos because Soplos Linux is acting weird when i try to use my webbrowser it takes 2-3 min to get to a website ihave no idea whats going on the same if i try to look for updates it takes forever to show anything.

i did install one proton gui client this one and i think its that what cause the problem with internet so i uninstalled it and took another version of the proton vpn and now it seems my internet is working again. but i still need to use my root password to enable proton vpn on start up.

Thanks for the extra details and screenshots — that clears things up!

That password prompt you're seeing ("System policy prevents modification of network settings for all users") is the standard PolicyKit (polkit) authentication dialog. It shows up because Proton VPN's kill switch (pvpn-killswitch) needs to modify system network configuration, and that requires privileged authentication — this is completely normal on any Linux distro using NetworkManager, not something specific to Soplos. Proton itself asks for this every time you connect, as you mentioned.

So to sum up:

• Password prompt during system updates → expected (PackageKit/pkexec)
• Password prompt when Proton VPN connects (kill switch) → expected (polkit), same behavior you'd see on any distro
• Browser/update slowness → this one is worth digging into further

Glad to hear switching Proton VPN client versions seemed to fix the slowness! Just to confirm — is everything running smoothly now on Soplos, or did the slow browsing/updates come back at all? If it happens again, it'd help to know:

• Which Proton VPN version/package you're using now (Flatpak, .deb, etc.)
• Whether the slowness happens with the VPN connected, disconnected, or both

Now everything is ok and since i changed the the proton version internet is running as it should no slowness now and now i use the flatpack version of proton vpn version 4.17.1
and i installed Steam and have played some games and it works very well. And im happy i did install Soplos Linux

I just want to say how pleased im with Soplos Linux now its my new Daily Driver and my fav distro so far and its noticeable very snappy and it works great for gaming and i noticed that my steam games loads faster on Soplos then other distros i tried.
